The Webmaster is an assistant only you and your administrators see. Tell it in plain words what you need. Anything that would change your site is shown to you first and waits for your approval. Here is how to switch it on and set it up.
Watch it done: a short silent video with captions · 1:46. The steps below show the same thing picture by picture.
Before you start
Log in as the site owner.
Open ADMIN › Site Settings.
Switch it on
1
Step 1. Click the Webmaster tab.
2
Step 2. Read what it does: you tell it what you need, by typing or speaking, for example content, a page, blog posts, products or design changes. Anything that changes your site is shown to you first and waits for your approval.
3
Step 3. Tick Enable Webmaster. It is a small floating button shown to administrators only; your visitors never see it.
Set it up
4
Step 4. Webmaster name: what the button and the window are called.
5
Step 5. Colors: choose one of eight colour schemes (Midnight Indigo, Classic Blue, Graphite & Gold, Deep Emerald, Crimson, Royal Plum, Deep Ocean, Sunset Copper).
6
Step 6. Position: Bottom-Right or Bottom-Left. Show it on: All pages, or Admin pages only.
7
Step 7. Two options: "Let me speak my requests and hear the replies", and "Point out things worth doing on my site".
8
Step 8. Click Save Settings.
Open it
9
Step 9. The Webmaster button now sits in the corner of the pages you see while you are logged in.
10
Step 10. Click it to open the Webmaster window. It greets you, lists a few things it noticed on your site, and offers quick buttons.
11
Step 11. Type (or speak) what you need in plain words. Read every proposed change carefully before you approve it. (In this demonstration nothing was asked, and the Webmaster was switched off again afterwards.)
Check it worked
After saving, open any page while logged in: the Webmaster button is in the corner you chose. Log out, or use a private window: it is gone.
Good to know
Ask for one small change at a time, and check the result before you ask for the next.
Nothing changes on your site until you approve it: read the proposal first.
